Story 1: Long Distance Relationships

Adrienne Ruder and her boyfriend, who is in the Navy Reserves, have been in a long distance relationship for two and a half years.

Adrienne is a freshman at Michigan State University and has dealt with her boyfriend being on missions that have lasted 6 months, one that lasted 8, and she says that the one he is about to go on will last almost a year.

Ruder said that the easiest way to keep things normal when he is away is to keep a routine, one that was kept before the significant other leaves, "I will text him sometimes what I’m doing even though I can’t respond, just because that’s what I normally do.”

Ruder said that long distance relationships are worth it if you can see yourself with that person for a long time, even the rest of your life.

Story 2: Long Distance Relationships

Talulah Cross has been in a long distance relationship officially for about 2 month after " talking " for about a year. Cross met her boyfriend when she lived in Texas but had to move to New York when her father who is in the military, had to go to a different base. Cross said that her and her boyfriend "t alk on the phone and FaceTime and talk about our days and what’s going on in our lives to stay updated as if we are there.” That way they keep their routine as normal as possible. Cross said being in a long distance  relationship makes you cherish the time you get to have with each other when visiting. That waiting for each other is worth it.

Recap of Late Night Studying

Tonight's Late Night Studying Ritual only lasted an hour, due to distracting FaceBook and chats about tattoos and family history. Emma left to shower and said, "my studying has been unproductive because my roommate is very distracting." Her roommate is Haylie, the one who has been doing cartwheels and stalking people on FaceBook. However, Haylie said "it was productive in the end but the beginning it was not. But I did see some cool FaceBook posts!" The only real people that got any studying done was the guys across the lobby, who Haylie claimed as "cutie-patooties." This is usually how the girls of West Holden's studying nights go, just a lot of chatting and FaceBooking.

Preview of Late Night Studying

Tonight we will be viewing the nightly ritual of Emma and Haylie studying. Emma will be studying for her bio exam on Wednesday. "I will be studying for my bio exam on DNA." This late night studying has turned into a ritual when the girls in my hall all wanted to study but didn't know where to study. Haylie commented on having to move spots from the West Holden lobby to the main lobby, "I hate it. The lighting is terrible and I can barely see my homework." Tonight Haylie said that she will be working on her statistics homework and stalking the love of her life on FaceBook.
